Special Family Events
Each year A Better Way hosts Special Family Events to celebrate the dedication and accomplishments of our foster families, children, staff and volunteers. These events include our Winter Holiday Party held each December and our Foster Parent Appreciation Picnic & BBQ held each August.
The Winter Holiday Party each year is a celebration A Better Way holds for our children and families. This event showcases a winter wonderland theme that emphasizes the joy of the holidays. The party focuses on building community between foster families and sharing in the spirit of the season.
It is amazing to hear the music and laughter fill the room as the children and families celebrate together. The children always have a great time doing crafts and activities such as making stockings, holiday frames, and decorating yummy cookies. In years past, the kids have been thrilled to receive a special visit and token from Santa. The parents have enjoyed receiving copies of their family photo, and some were taken with Santa himself! The event annually serves to commemorate and honor the wonderful and loving parents and staff we have caring for these amazing children.
The Foster Parent Appreciation Picnic & BBQ is an event A Better Way staff and volunteers put on specifically to honor the hard work of our foster parents and foster-to-adoption parents. This is a summertime event, and as such, we always have a variety of delicious “Picnic Fixins” and a grill master at the barbecue. The picnic is always a lot of fun for staff and families. We all gather at a large picnic area where the children can play and sometimes swim. There are crafts, activities, music, and fun for all. The parents keep their ear open for the Raffle where some great prizes are always given out. Our graduating high school seniors are honored each year with a cake and a special gift from A Better Way as well.
